Tierschutz Djurdjevo

25.02.2025 Tierschutz-Projekte

Since 1986, Monika Brukner from Switzerland has been working tirelessly in Serbia to help abused, injured and abandoned dogs and cats, as well as farm animals, zoo animals and wild animals that are kept in agonising conditions. She is also committed to the preservation of plant and tree populations.

Mr and Mrs Brukner moved to Yugoslavia for a year in 1986 for professional reasons. Shocked by the great misery of the animals and the many strays she encountered there, the Swiss woman soon gave up her career and founded a private animal shelter in the same year.

The Brukners persevered during the war years for the sake of the animals and stayed despite the difficult life in the economically ruined country. Even the death of her husband in 2006 did not deter Monika Brukner from continuing to fight against the harsh fate of many animals in Serbia.

But Monika Brukner was also active in the humanitarian field for many years. She delivered weekly food parcels with basic foodstuffs to many needy families

In 2000, a sponsoring association was founded in Switzerland, which endeavours to secure the necessary funds for this important project.
